According to an internal memo acquired by Business Insider, Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, announced that Vishal Shah, who has led Metaverse initiatives for several years, will now head the AI Products team within the newly established Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). This division is dedicated to advancing the integration of “personal superintelligence” into Meta’s various platforms. Shah’s new role will involve overseeing AI implementations across both the Family of Apps (FoA) and Reality Labs, with reporting responsibilities to Nat Friedman, the head of MSL. The memo outlines that the focus on metaverse projects remains steadfast and is considered a priority across the company.

Shah’s Transition and Future Vision

In the memo, Bosworth describes Shah’s shift as pivotal in Meta’s broader strategy to align metaverse innovation with the goal of achieving “personal superintelligence” — a vision for artificial general intelligence (AGI) that was articulated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year. Ryan Cairns will maintain his role overseeing Horizon OS, which is being promoted to an organization-level product group directly reporting to Bosworth.
